I hope everyone is having a relaxing and enjoyable summer! Plans for the upcoming school year are underway and I am very excited. Below are a few announcements so that everyone will be up to date. All of the deadlines are listed on the calendar on the band website (papirateband.com). Our first Band Booster meeting will be 5:30 Thursday, Aug. 4th.
1. 2016-17 Band Members
If you are reading this email, then I have you on my marching band class roll. Please stop and reply immediately if this is incorrect. Please do not assume that I already know.
Band fee = $50 per child ($35 for 2nd child)
Bus fee = $100 per child
You can send one check for $150 or split into 2 payments of $75 if you wish. The deadline for the first payment is Thursday, Sept. 1st. The second payment is due Tuesday, Nov. 1st. Please do not send cash.
School Instrument Usage Fee = $35 per semester for students using school-owned instruments. Helps cover the cost of regular maintenance to those school instruments. An instrument check-out form will be signed by the student, parent, and myself. Fee for 1st semester (marching season) is due by Sept. 1st. Fee for 2nd semester (concert season) is due by Jan. 6th.
Shoes = $26. Only if you need them. I have a few hand-me-downs in my office. Shoes must be paid for before I can order them.
All 4 of these items are due on Picture Day. It is very important that I have emergency info for everyone before we start camp.
-Emergency Form* (click here)
-Copy of health insurance card*
-Field Trip Release (click here)
-Band Handbook Agreement (page 12) (click here)
*If there are no changes in your emergency info or insurance from last year, you do not have to fill out a new emergency form or bring another copy of your insurance card. EVERYONE is required to return the field trip release and band handbook agreement.
If you would like to have the same band uniform again or if you already know you need a new part, please let me know ASAP. Uniform fittings will be 12:30-6:00 Tuesday, July 19th and 9:00-12:30 Wednesday, July 20th. Everyone will need a uniform to wear for pictures on July 29th.
*All percussionists: please return your marching uniform ASAP – you will wear an alternate uniform this year.
For band camp, each family should bring 1 case of bottled water. You can bring this with you to uniform fittings or on Picture Day.

7. ***School Rehearsal Schedule*** Please Read!
After school rehearsals will be every Wednesday and Thursday until 5:00. We will rehearse after school beginning Wed., Aug. 10th. Parents, please remember this schedule when you are making plans. Tuesday is the best day of the week if you have to make doctors' appointments, etc. during school hours.
Wednesdays are sacred band days. All athletes and any student involved in any other curricular or extra-curricular activity 7th period must come to band every Wednesday – no exceptions. Unfortunately, the schedule doesn’t allow for this every day of the week, so it is up to the student to stay current with the things we are learning when he/she is not at band. Remember that your band grade goes on your report card. It is a co-curricular class, meaning: 1. we have a curriculum (therefore, band is not extra-curricular), 2. there are requirements outside of regular class times that are either a product or continuation of our band curriculum. Exhaust every resource to be at all rehearsals, especially on Wednesdays.
Keep yourself in shape! Upper body and core exercises, running/cardio, and eating healthy foods are all good things to do to get ready for band camp. Begin acclimating your body to the heat as well. Spend a little time outside each day. Band is more enjoyable when your body is able to perform the things band requires it to do!
Remember to practice your instrument! We will hit the ground running the first day, so be ready. Halftime show music will be posted to the Google Drive as I finish it. You have the link in your email.
If your instrument needs a checkup or repair, please tend to that BEFORE band camp. Cole Band is open M-F 10-5:00.
I will send another email in the next several days of things to bring to band camp.
See you July 29th!
