Congratulations to WVUA's Band of the Week!
We will be outside every day this week, so please remember to wear/bring appropriate shoes.
No after-school practice.
Practice until 5:00, eat at 5:30.
You may wear your Halloween costume to school for Scare Away Drugs day on Friday.
We are not taking a bus to Sumter, so we will meet there BY 6:15.
*****Make sure you take EVERYTHING you need for Friday night AND Saturday when you leave school Friday afternoon. Someone will forget something - don't let it be you!*****
Meet in front of Gordo Elementary absolutely no later than 9:20 AM (see attached map). Arrive DRESSED in full uniform with instrument/equipment. Leave all cases in cars. If you aren't taking it on the field, don't bring it with you. Be respectful of other bands and do not play until we begin our warmup. We will change into polo & khakis after we perform. Check the weather and wear layers. Remember money for concessions and any souvenirs.
No later than 9:20 - Meet in front of GES
9:45 - Warmup
10:15 - Depart warmup
10:30 - Perform
~10:50 - Meet at the dirt parking lot between the field and school (see map). This is the place & time you will need to get in touch with the person who has your instrument case, garment bag, polo, etc. Parents, please let your child know if he/she is supposed to come find you, go back to your car, meet you in the parking lot, etc. This is often the most frustrating part of competition day. Please have a plan. The gym will be open to change clothes.
~6:00 - SENIORS & AUX CAPTAINS change back into uniforms (after RamCorps)
8:00 - Awards Ceremony
One of the main purposes of going to competitions is to watch and support other bands and learn from them. I know this is always a long day and we're starting earlier than usual this year. I hesitate to offer this, but if you have a legitimate excuse and absolutely MUST leave after we perform, you may, but you must be back by 3:00.
Have a great week!
Lunch will be provided by Southern Academy. We will wear band shirts & khakis. You may wear khaki shorts if they are in dress code. The route is almost 2 miles long and it will be warm, so wear comfortable socks and tennis shoes.
