1. Relay for Life
Wear black & white Sunday clothes. Take your instrument home with you at the end of school on Friday. I need a parent (or two) to transport about 25 music stands. Please let me know if you can help.
6:45 – Meet at the walking track at Aliceville City Hall. Unload & set up stands, etc. Leave instrument cases in cars.
6:55 – Warm up
7:15 – Perform in gazebo
7:30 – Help load stands & percussion before dismissed.
2. Band Charges
Yesterday I sent emails to those who have an outstanding balance to the band. Please pay those as soon as possible. If you need to make payments, that is fine.
3. Solo & Ensemble
Everyone is required to prepare a solo or ensemble and play for me at school for a grade. The deadline to do this is Friday, April 22nd. You are not required to go to the solo & ensemble festival at TCHS on April 21st. This event takes place after school on that day. Today was the last day to sign up to go. I texted a list of those who signed up. Remember to send your $5 entry fee ASAP.
4. Band Banquet
The Band Awards Banquet and Semi-Formal is Saturday, April 23rd in the auditorium. The Band Council is working on preparations. We will send around a sheet tomorrow to get t-shirt sizes for you and any guests who would like one. We are not sure on price yet (last year they were $13). We will also vote on awards tomorrow. 5. Fish Fry & PTO
The Fish Fry & PTO performance are May 3rd. To cut down on our overhead cost this year, every family needs to prepare desserts for 2 dozen and bring a loaf of bread. 6. Spring Concert
Our spring concert is May 5th at 6:30. Be in the auditorium by 5:45. This is a required performance. Full concert attire.
Graduation is May 20th at 6:00. Be seated in the auditorium by 5:30. This is a required performance. Black & white Sunday clothes.
8. Band Camp Dates Reminder
These are the dates of band camp: Monday – Saturday, August 1st – 6th, Monday & Tuesday afternoons, August 8th – 9th. School starts August 10th. I sent you this earlier than usual this year (on Feb. 8th) so that you can plan around these dates. Remember that band camp attendance is mandatory.
9. New Uniforms Update
We raised a little over $2000 with our pizza fundraiser. We have around $9500 in our bank account right now after our $7500 obligation to the general fund. I have a uniform design that I am fine-tuning with the uniform company. This process is what has taken the longest so far. Once we get the design finalized, then I can decide what materials the uniform will be built out of before they can give me a price. They then send us a sample uniform to inspect before we place an order. They require 1/3rd payment to place the order with the other 2/3rds due upon delivery. To be honest, it does not look like we will have these in time for fall 2016.

Junior Varsity Majorettes:
Lindsey Turner - Head
1. Monday, Feb. 22nd we will have a Mardi Gras "parade" at school for the elementary AR students during 7th period. We will talk more about details in class. Wear a yellow/green/purple/Mardi Gras-colored shirt if you have one. Bring a flip folder & lyre.
2. Pizza kits will be delivered next Tuesday (2/23) at 3:00. These will be frozen, so please come pick them up asap.
3. Practice next Wednesday (2/24) until 4:30. This will be our last rehearsal with everyone able to attend. You have Thursday after school off to REST (see below).
4. Majorette Mock Tryouts will be Friday, March 11th at 6:30 in the gym. Admission is $5.00. Proceeds go to the majorettes.
5. Below is the itinerary for MPA & AISA, BOTH next Friday. Please trust me when I say I've tried as hard as possible to accommodate many different individual schedules. This is the best of our available options. It will be a very long day. That's just the way it is.
Eat something before you get to Pickens Academy! We will have snacks & bottled water for the bus ride. Guys, I recommend that you wear your concert attire all day so you don't have to worry with changing clothes. Girls, bring a garment bag for your dress - unless you want to wear it all day. The performances at both events are free and open to the public. Parents, family, and friends are welcome to attend if you can.

Happy New Year! I am looking forward to a new semester. We hit the ground running on Monday!
1. Concert Band Camp
This Friday until 6:00 and Saturday 9:00-3:00. We typically go through a good chunk of several of our pieces for MPA/AISA, so attendance is mandatory. Please bring $10 per family by this Friday to help pay for our clinicians who will be coming in to teach sectional masterclasses. Please do not combine this money with payment for something else. I am very excited about this addition to our camp this year. All of our clinicians are well-respected music educators or performers in our area. Lunch will be provided on Saturday.
2. After-School Practices
We will continue to have practices after school on Wednesdays and Thursdays through January and February. We will not practice after school this week. Please check the calendar on the band website — some weeks we will only practice one day or the other or not at all. These first two months of the year are always the most hectic. Please help everyone else by staying on top of your planning and communicating with me. WEDNESDAYS are still our sacred BAND DAYS. Come to class. I will hunt you down.
3. MPA & AISA State Festival Performance Dates
These are both REQUIRED performances. Attire is formal concert black (see handbook). I won't know our performance times until the week before.
Music Performance Assessment: Held in the concert hall at UA on Thursday, February 25th. Usually during the school day.
AISA State Festival: Held at Huntingdon on Friday, February 26th. You will miss this day of school.
4. All-State Tryout Registration
If you are trying out for All-State on Saturday, Jan. 31st, I need your $10 registration fee by this Friday, Jan. 8th.
5. 2nd Semester Instrument Fees
If you are using a school-owned instrument your $35 instrument fee for this semester is due by next Friday, Jan. 15th.
***We need 6-8 people to help setup backdrop panels Friday night at the football game and Saturday at Gordo. If you are able to help, please come to practice Thursday afternoon from 4:00-4:30 to learn what to do.
Monday & Tuesday:
Plan on going to the stadium 7th period both days. If it is not raining, be lined up in front of the band room by 2:05. Wear/bring appropriate shoes. No after-school practice.
No after-school practice. SAA field trip.
Mandatory practice until 4:30.
You may participate in the dress-up day on Friday. Full uniform for the game.
5:15 - Band room open
5:45 - Attendance, warmup
6:30 - Pregame (senior night)
Make sure all equipment and instruments are loaded onto the trailer after the game Friday night. The trailer will meet you at Gordo on Saturday. Take your uniform home with you.
EAT BREAKFAST!!!! You won't be able to get lunch until after we perform.
11:00 - Arrive fully dressed in your uniform. Meet in the dirt parking lot beside the Gordo practice field (Click here for map.) The trailer will be here for you to unload instruments and equipment. Notice the road blocks - you will not be able to drive to or park in this lot. Be respectful of other bands and do not play until we begin our warmup.
11:40 - Warmup beside band hall
12:10 - Depart warmup
12:20 - Perform
12:40 - Meet back at the dirt parking lot. Load instruments and equipment back onto the trailer. Parents, please meet us in the dirt parking lot with garment bag, polo, etc. This is often the most frustrating part of competition day because the students are drained mentally and physically. The gym will be open to change clothes. After we perform, we will change into the navy band t-shirt (if you have one) & jeans OR polo & jeans.
6:00 - Band Council, color guard captain, majorette captain change back into uniform (after Hazel Green HS).
8:00 - Awards ceremony
Everyone stays all day through the awards ceremony at competitions. One of the main purposes of going to competitions is to watch and support the other bands and learn from them. Check the weather and wear layers for later in the evening. Remember money for concessions and any souvenirs.
Friday, Nov. 6:
Playoff game AWAY. Probably at Springwood Academy. Details TBA.
Monday, Nov. 9:
We will take a full band trip to Tuscaloosa to hear the UA Symphonic & Concert Bands perform at 7:30. Internationally-known euphonium soloist, Adam Frey will perform with the Symphonic Band. Tickets for students are free ($10 for others). The concert will last until about 8:45 or 9:00 since both bands are performing. I've seen the program and it will be a fantastic concert. This will be a great end-of-season treat for everyone. Parents, if you already know you can drive, please let me know. I will send more details later.
